The Daylight Fades phenomenon is once again sweeping through the streets of Memphis this week. The dedicated cast and crew is setting up shop all around town shooting additional photography and gearing up for the final leg of post-production.

Thanks to all the extras who came out to Midtown on Tuesday in the wee hours of the morn’ to help us grab the perfect take. Also, special thanks to Red Bull for once again giving us our wings.

After premiering at the South Main Trolley Tour in June, the trailer made its Internet debut on 07.08.09. The two minute trailer’s online release coincides with the launching of the new Daylight Fades fan page on Facebook.

Join us on June 26th at the South Main Trolley Tour for the highly-anticipated premiere of the Daylight Fades movie trailer, which will be unveiled in High Definition.

The official first viewing will be held at 7:00 PM and space is limited, so make sure you arrive in plenty of time. If you can’t make it that early… no problem! The trailer will be shown throughout the night until the Trolley Tour ends at 9:00 PM.

You may already have plans to attend the South Main Trolley Night to peruse the art galleries, go shopping, enjoy live music, and sip a few beverages. While there, make sure to stop by 506 S. Main (across from Bluff City Coffee) to experience a sneak peak of our upcoming feature film and party with the cast and crew.

Daylight Fades was shot in Memphis during January and February of 2009. Post production is ongoing.  The film is scheduled for a late 2009/early 2010 release.

The Daylight Fades wrap party was recently highlighted in the People & Places section of the April 2009 edition of VIP Memphis Magazine.  The cast and crew partied all night, starting at B.B. Kings on Beale Street.

After the wrapping of principal photography, Executive Producer Ryan Watt posted a guest blog about Daylight Fades on the new MemphisConnect.com:

“I eagerly joined the group as Executive Producer on this ambitious project, and it has been an incredible experience. After an intense seven-week shoot, entirely in Memphis, I have a new love and tremendous respect for the art of film making. Midtown and Downtown communities and businesses went above and beyond, truly astounding us with their willingness to help. People we didn’t even know before filming began provided us with essential services, including locations and catering. The Memphis Film Commission was integral to the success of our production. The Memphis Police and Fire Departments, Memphis Parks Commission, and many other local organizations gave us their full support.

If you are considering a film project in Memphis, there is a network of extremely dedicated and creative individuals and many organizations to look into. Live from Memphis, Indie Memphis Film Festival, and ArtsMemphis are all great places to start. Recently, Memphis was named the 8th best city for independent film making (http://www.memphisfilmcomm.org/news/news26.htm) and I will attest that the recognition is well deserved.

Daylight Fades is a drama involving vampires that puts the emphasis on characters and story over the more traditional horror elements. Although writer Allen Gardner now lives in Los Angeles, he knew that this film should be set and shot in his hometown of Memphis.

We have utilized social networking and other web-based tools as our primary source of marketing. Memphis Flyer film critic Chris Herrington took a look at Daylight Fades in his “Film Clips” article this week:

“Daylight Fades, the latest feature project of Old School Pictures — director Brad Ellis, writer/actor Allen Gardner, and their cohorts — wrapped its two-month shoot February 15th at a Midtown house after filming at locations such as Overton Park, the P&H Café, the South Bluffs, and Earnestine & Hazel’s.

The Old School crew are two-time winners of the Best Hometowner Feature award at the Indie Memphis festival with The Path of Fear and Act One, but based on the budget (10 times Act One, according to Ellis), scope, and impressive early demo reel, they’re aiming even higher this time.

The vampire-themed feature is a return to the horror genre for a crew that got its start with a high-school-era shot-by-shot remake of Halloween. But Gardner, who wrote the film and first pitched the idea to Ellis at Act One’s Studio on the Square screening, stresses that it’s more a relationship-based drama than a conventional horror film.

In addition to a larger budget, Daylight Fades is a departure for Old School in that it was shot in an expansive, big-screen-ready ratio. The demonstration reel — which looks highly professional and is packed with striking shots that make great use of the wider frame — suggest Ellis and crew have stepped up to the challenge.”

The University of Memphis student newspaper, The Daily Helmsman, ran a front page story about Daylight Fades in last Friday’s edition:

“Daylight Fades, a movie being shot in Memphis, is a drama about mortality, love and loss. The cast and crew have been shooting in Midtown and Downtown Memphis throughout January and continued into February. Young Avenue Deli, Senses, P & H Café, Ernestine & Hazel’s and different houses in the Cooper-Young area and Cowden and Linden, are featured in the movie.

Ryan Watt, executive producer, said the film is a character-based drama, with elements of horror.

Daylight Fades is a product of Old School Pictures. Three of the four producers, including the director, are U of M alumni.

“Almost all of us are from Memphis,” Watt said. “Most of us went to Houston High.”

Because most of them grew up here, they decided it would be the perfect place to shoot the movie. ”
